My Essential Korea Travel Resources :
There are a lot of travel companies out there, but some are better than others. After traveling to South Korea over a dozen times, these are my favorite websites and resources to help plan an incredible trip. For flights, I recommend using WayAway or Hopper to compare the cheapest dates to travel to South Korea. Car rentals, although not common in Korea, are best through Discover Cars - just make sure to have a copy of your international driver's permit with you! I always use AGODA for hotels. They have an easy-to-use platform and tend to focus on the Asia-Pacific region. To keep cell phone service, I always use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required). For fun things to do, Klook specializes on tours in Asia, otherwise Viator also does the trick. Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use when visiting a new country. Lastly, my essential packing list when traveling. What to Expect at McDonalds in Korea
McDonald's in South Korea is somewhat similar to the rest of the world, and now that they've installed the self serve ordering machines everywhere, you can easily order what you want in English (or whatever language you need).
Although some items are quite similar to the US, like the Big Mac & French Fries, I recommend branching out and trying all the unique items you can find at the McDonalds in South Korea (listed below). Some are quite delicious and became some of my favorite McDonalds items - which is saying a lot after visiting McDonalds in 16 countries! The main differences are that they typically have a few more "healthier" options compared to the U.S., their burgers and sandwiches can be a bit spicer than the U.S., and sometimes their Happy Meal toys can actually be quite epic. If you want to order McDonalds for delivery in Korea, you can choose to either order online or through the McDelivery App via mobile. I also noticed that almost all of our items were very messy (when you see the photos you'll see what I'm talking about) which could have just been the location or the sheer amount of sauce many of the items have!
My Favorite Food Tours in Seoul :
- Gwangjang Food Market Guided Tour - Seoul Soju Tasting Experience 9 Unique Items to Try at Maccas Korea
1. Cajun Beef Snack Wrap (Try)
This snack wrap has a bulgogi like beef at it's center, with lettuce and cajun inspired sauce. I honestly enjoyed this snack wrap, and even though there was a little spice I thought it really complemented the beef very nicely!
2. McChicken Mozzarella (Try)
This sandwich from McDonalds in Korea instantly became one of my favorites, although I'm not sure I could finish a full one on my own. With Mozzarella Sticks added onto their chicken burger, it also had lettuce and a certain type of sauce that looked spicy but wasn't. This sandwich was a little messy, so I recommend avoiding it if you're wearing white!
3. Bulgogi Burger (Avoid)
Although similar to the Bulgogi Snack Wrap, personally I wouldn't recommend. With bulgogi meat, lots of sauce, and some lettuce - I found that the meat was very...mushy, which didn't sit quite right with me. The sauce is very sweet and overall I just didn't think this was a great representation of Bulgogi.
4. Golden Mozzarella Cheese Sticks (Avoid)
Even though these were delicious in the McChicken Mozarrella, personally I didn't really like these on their own. However, I'm giving them a little bit of wiggle room for two reasons - one being that by the time I tried them they had cooled down and the cheese wasn't melty anymore, and two being I hadn't gotten any sauce to dip them in and they tasted quite plain on their own. These would be one item I'd like to try again next time!
5. Supreme Shrimp Burger (Avoid)
The Supreme Shrimp Burger is a unique item that comes with a shrimp patty, tomato, and lettuce. If there's one thing I really wouldn't recommend on this list it would be this Shrimp Burger. To be honest, the patty is what did it for me - rather than breaded whole shrimps like the Shrimp Burger in Japan - this patty was complete mush and felt as if it hadn't been cooked. I wouldn't recommend.
6. Coleslaw (Avoid)
I'll be honest I'm not a coleslaw fan in the first place, and this one didn't quite do it for me either. The coleslaw from McDonald's in Korea was unlike coleslaw in the U.S. - it wasn't mayonnaise filled, and was quite a bit more pickled that other coleslaw I've tried before. Overall, I would skip this and try something else.
7. Shanghai Chicken Snack Wrap (Try)
Personally I thought the Snack Wraps in Korea were delicious. The Shanghai Chicken Snack Wrap had chicken, a strip of bacon, lettuce, and mayonnaise - and I loved it! The bacon was very crispy which was a huge plus, and I honestly don't know why we ever got rid of the snack wraps in the U.S.
8. Plum Peach Chiller (Try)
The Plum Peach Chiller and the Jeju Hallabong Chiller could probably be listed as the same item, however both flavors were so uniquely delicious I felt they each deserved their own spot. The Plum Peach flavor to me was very fruity and sweet, and was the perfect snack to cool down on a hot day! 9. Jeju Hallabong Chiller (Try) The Jeju Hallabong Chiller I found equally as good, and it honestly tasted just like the orange flavored goodies you would find on Jeju Island. Just like the Plum Peach Chiller, it was very sweet and a great cold snack!
